Natural hair products for every type of curl
Curly hair often has different needs to straight hair. The natural oils from the scalp don’t spread as easily through waves and curls, which means the lengths and ends can feel dry more quickly. At the same time, a routine that’s too rich can actually weigh down fine or wavy hair. The best routine for curls therefore doesn’t involve using as many products as possible, but rather products that suit your hair.
In this category, you’ll find natural hair care products for loose waves, bouncy curls and tightly coiled hair. You can choose from gentle cleansers, nourishing conditioners, intensive masks, lightweight leave-in treatments and styling products for hydration, volume, body and definition.
What kind of hair care is best for your curls?
Fine or wavy hair
Fine, wavy hair often tends to become weighed down more easily. You should therefore opt for lightweight products and avoid using too much at once. A mild shampoo, a lightweight conditioner and a small amount of mousse or gel may be enough to enhance its natural movement. Always start with a small amount of product and only add more if your hair needs it.
Dry, thick or frizzy curls
Dry or coarser curls usually need more nourishment and hydration. A nourishing conditioner, a hair mask and a leave-in product can help make the hair softer and more manageable. A curl cream or gel then helps to define the curls and reduce frizz.

Limp or damaged curls
Curls that go limp quickly, lack bounce or have been damaged by colouring and heat styling can benefit from products containing protein. Protein supports the hair’s structure, but more isn’t always better. You should therefore alternate protein-rich treatments with moisturising products and pay close attention to how your hair reacts.
A simple, natural routine for curly hair
A good routine doesn’t have to be complicated. Follow these steps to give your curls a good foundation:
- Wash the hair gently. Use a shampoo or cleanser that cleans the hair without leaving the lengths feeling unnecessarily dry.
- Use conditioner or a hair mask. Work the product through the lengths and ends in particular, and gently detangle the hair with your fingers or a suitable brush.
- Apply a leave-in conditioner. A leave-in conditioner or light balm helps to lock in moisture and makes it easier to style your curls.
- Choose a suitable styling product. Use cream for extra nourishment, mousse for lightness and volume, or gel for more definition and hold.
- Gently dry your curls. Let your hair air-dry, or use a diffuser on a low heat setting and a gentle airflow.
It’s best not to rub wet hair vigorously dry with a normal bath towel. Gently squeeze the moisture out of your hair using a soft hair towel or cotton cloth. This helps to preserve the natural shape of your curls.
Curling cream, mousse or gel?
A curl cream nourishes the hair and helps to define dry or frizzy curls. A mousse generally gives a lighter finish and is therefore ideal if you want more volume or don’t want to weigh down fine hair. Gel provides more hold and helps the curls stay in place for longer.
You can also combine products. For example, start by applying a small amount of leave-in conditioner or curl cream, then use mousse or gel for extra definition. Which combination works best depends on your hair and the result you want to achieve.

A balance of moisture and protein
Moisturising products help keep curls soft, supple and shiny. Proteins, on the other hand, support the hair’s structure and resilience. If your hair feels dry, coarse or straw-like, it may need more moisturising care. If your curls lose their shape quickly and feel very limp, a product containing protein may be suitable.
You don’t need to change your entire routine straight away. Introduce one new product at a time. That way, you’ll be better able to assess how the product affects your hair.

Selected from our own hair salon
The products in our online shop aren’t chosen simply for their attractive packaging or popular ingredients. We look at the ingredients, how easy they are to use, and how a product feels and performs in practice. From our experience in the hair salon, we know that no two curls are the same.
Are you struggling to decide, or are you unsure which product to choose? Please feel free to get in touch with us. When you do, please tell us a bit about your hair, your current routine and any issues you’re having. That way, we can offer you more tailored advice.

Frequently asked questions about natural curly hair care
What are the minimum products I need for my curls?
A simple routine usually consists of a mild shampoo, a conditioner and one styling product. If you have dry hair, you can add a leave-in conditioner or hair mask to this.
How often should I wash my curly hair?
That depends on your scalp, the styling products you use and how quickly your hair becomes greasy or heavy. Some people wash their hair once a week, whilst others need to wash it more often. Above all, let the condition of your scalp be your guide.
Do your curls need a bit of extra care and definition? Then take a look at our selection natural curl cream.
Can gel make my curls feel stiff?
As it dries, gel can form a firm layer around the curls. Once the hair is completely dry, you can gently squeeze this layer loose. The curls will then retain their definition, but feel softer to the touch.
Are all curly hair products suitable for every type of curl?
No. A rich product that works well for thick, dry hair can weigh down fine or wavy hair. So don’t just look at your curl type, but also at the thickness, porosity and condition of your hair.
